Notes- Goals

What are some of your goals? Write down 5.
-maintain high academic standards in the year of 2005
-provide services towards the community
-go into a good university
-finish planning 10 with an A
-get a job in the next year

Why do we make goals?
-organize and focus your efforts
-measure your success
-identify your failures
-to help make new goals

Areas in life you use goals
-education
-career
-finances
-relationships
-sports
-health

Two basic types of goals:
short term-not longer than one year
-stepping stones toward your long term goals
-frequently you are unaware of them
long term-final destination
-the result of short term goals
-you are usually aware of them

What are some problems teen have with setting goals?
-they have no idea what they want
-the goals they have are frequently not their own
-they don't know how
-they simply don't care (just like many adults)

Good goals should be:
-S-pecific
-M-easurable
-A-chievable
-R-ealistic
-T-imely

Re look at the 5 goals. Are they smart?
My five goals were not smart because they were not SMART. I should change these goals into more specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely goals.

Goals in 8 easy steps
-make sure your goals are something you really want
-your goals don't contradict one another
-create goals for all areas of life
-write goals in positive terms
-write your goal out in detail
-make sure your goal is high enough
-write them down
-your goals are based on past experience
